USA Rugby: USA RUGBY Announces Player Development Camp at East Stroudsburg University.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (May 14) - USA RUGBY announced Wednesday it will return to East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania July 10-13, 2003
to offer a Player Development Camp for high school girls and boys and collegiate men and women.
”USA RUGBY, East Stroudsburg University, and the ESU Rugby Family worked very hard to bring together a very successful camp last year” said East Stroudsburg Women's Rugby Coach Kevin Castner.
“I believe with these same groups working together again it can only make for another outstanding camp.”
The camp at East Stroudsburg University, sponsored by RUGGERS.COM, is open to high school and college boys and girls of all skill levels from beginner to advanced.
An initial skills evaluation at the opening of the camp will allow instructors to group players according to age and ability.
Each camper will have the opportunity to experience both dynamic classroom and practical on-field training sessions.
Salty Thompson, current U19 Boys’ National Team Head Coach will again serve as the Lead Instructor for the camp, responsible for overall curriculum and instruction.
Several of USA RUGBY’S best national team coaches, instructors and players will join Coach Thompson to provide training and instruction to all campers in basic and more specific rugby skills.
The classroom instruction will help players learn rugby’s tactical “Key Factors,” and will also cover topics such as strength and conditioning and video analysis.
The field instruction portion of the camp is designed for both basic and advanced skill level players. All campers will also compete in controlled scrimmages.
At the conclusion of the camp, each player will receive a Player Evaluation Form, which describes the player’s strengths, as well as areas in which the player needs improvement.
The evaluations are recorded in the central evaluation database at the USA RUGBY National Office and made available to national team coaches.
Players wishing to attend can do so as a resident or day camper. All campers will receive a player development camp manual, camp jersey, four days of staff instruction and complete player profile evaluation.
The resident camp fee is $375 and covers three night accommodations in the university dormitory and three breakfasts, lunches and dinners. A day camper fee of $285 includes one dinner and three lunches.
Space is limited to 225 players per camp and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Early registration is recommended.
Players can register on-line and learn more about the camp by visiting the USA Rugby website,usarugby.org.
From the main page of the website, select “Resources” then “Clinics and Camps” for camp schedule and registration information.
If you have any questions specific to the Player Development Camp, you may call the National Office at 719-637-1022.
Alumni Victorious on Alumni Day!
On May 3rd the Alumni showed the current players how to play Team Rugby. Showing
hardly any signs of rust the Alumni made solid tackles, great off-load passes,
and supported their players in every phase of the game. The score favored the
Alumni 11 tries to 2. The Old Boys did however gain some respect for the current
team as these new up and comers played a solid game. It is hoped these new boys
will continue to grow and once again be the team to beat.
Men Drop Tough One to Vassar
ESU Men's rugby team booted up for there first match of the spring against Vassar Friday, March 29.
ESU started the game with a good defensive front within the 22 meter mark holding Vassar from scoring.
With time though Vassar managed to put one in and made a successful kick. Vassar added 2 more tries and one successful kick to finish there half.
Mario Cella helped ESU out by pounding his way to a much needed tri-down. ESU's only score in the second half came from Stitch and an extra 2 from Shooter's kick.
Throughout the game there was a lot of learning for the team especially the rookies as this was the first game many of them have ever seen.
We hope to show much improvement as the season goes on starting with Bloomsburg this weekend!
